2023 CUSA Basketball Championships, or "Hoops at the Star"
Folks,
This newsletter has been a failed experiment. In that way I suppose it is very much like the league it covered: understaffed, underfunded, under-loved. Some other time I will put out the comprehensive version of what the thinking was and where it fell short. Long time readers of this newsletter and the cusareport.com site will have the gist. In short, the market for a conference-wide site was not there. Well, at least in the form that Yours Truly published. The league is covered in bits and pieces in the course of covering a single team by a few outlets. The issue I had with those -- speaking as a consumer in this respect -- was that the view was limited and partisan.
There is room for a neutral point of view and we tried bring that. That at some points people accused CR of bias for/against "Tech, UAB, CLT, UTSA, ODU, FAU, and Middle" says something positive of the coverage. In the end there was a vicious circle post-pandemic's belt-tightening. The momentum CR built was lost, and the subsequent announcement of the disbanding of the league as we know it -- ODU, USM, Marshall all leaving first -- was the end. C-USA will continue, but "I" will not be covering it on CUSA Report. Maybe someone else picks it up and continues the coverage of Tech and WKU's journey. Maybe someone else chronicles Kennesaw State.
Whatever happens, I appreciate the people who opened up their digital wallets and shelled out a nominal fee to keep it going. This tournament is the last C-USA related coverage you will see from me, and to reduce expenses and make it simple, we will do it on the site -- cusareport.com. We will have a tournament preview, some recaps, and more. Let's go out strong.
Thanks!
