Top films of the decade, although the markers are arbitrary times stamps of the Gregorian calendar

My top 50 of the decade!!! I do this to not only show off my sophisticated cultural knowledge, but maybe have others discover something they might not have watched. For my own analysis, most of these films were directed by white men, which says a lot about me and the movie industry.

Of note: 2 films are from Noah Baumbach, both which star Greta Gerwig. Only 2 Tilda movies!

This list is of course pending because I have not yet seen Cats, which may turn out to be the best piece of performance art of the millennia.

  1. Marjorie Prime

  1. Eighth Grade

  1. Birdman

  1. The Babadook

  1. Holy Motors

I have tried to explain Holy Motors, and here is how I’ve done it, and it usually is not a good sell: It is an anthology of unconnected visual and emotional experiments, tied together by a man who is “hired” to play these roles. He is driven to these by a faithful chauffeur. At the end, his limo comes to life. There’s a legit intermission musical number with accordions.

I’ve stopped begging people to watch it, but consider this my one last plea.
