Tales of Tenure Terror
I’m going to do a weekly roundup of academic blunders, terrors, and scandals, mostly predicated by tenured professors, who sometimes wield tenure as a license to abuse.
Nick Wolfinger (what a name!) comes after a graduate student questioning his take on Title IX.
Nicholas fires back with some amazing facts about he was the first make speaker at a women’s conference! Wow, the equivalent of “I have a black friend.”

Devon Cantwell @devon_cantwell
If you want to understand why the culture of gender discrimination and harassment is so bad at the @UUtah, look no further than this lovely bloke in the Sociology and FCS Departments at the U. Excellent collegiality towards feminist scholars, just so welcoming! https://t.co/IcUJ9d9OubFinally, not satisfied, he issues a veiled threat to Devon, using the time and true “I’m better than you” tactic of spelling someone’s name wrong despite it being in front of them.
Devin seems to be resilient and getting a lot of support, but a tenured professor coming for a graduate student and basically informing them that tenured professors are untouchable is the reason that the tenure system has been twisted into a system of bullying.
Tenure was meant to protect those with research opposing the the government from getting fired. Not for this.
