It was a week ago and it was already over 100 degrees F and I wanted a drink. Waiting (briefly) for friend of the newsletter, Becca, at the bar at Bad Jimmy’s, I scanned the drinks listlessly until I saw: Almond Lemonade. Confusion and intrigue. I asked the bartender what was up with the lemonade and, to be honest, I cannot remember the exact names of the ingredients he mentioned. But there was an almond syrup involved and I was an easy sell. The drink reminded me of the lemon La Florentine Torrone nougat sandwiched between papery wafers. Might as well have been nectar of the gods on that particular Tuesday.
Moments later, Becca swept in looking chic, of course, and I might have twisted her arm into ordering a lemonade before asking her to sign my copy of Guts! magazine. Never let them make you think the internet is all bad — I’ve met so many of my favorite beautiful weirdo writers online.
