Ninefox comic and other hobbies
Sorry it's been a minute! Life has been busy and my health has not been the best.
First, I have a forthcoming comic story in this year's Marvel's Voices: Pride, on sale May 31. More details here, and I'm dying to read everyone else's stories! Emma Frost 4eva. :)
Second, I have decided that Life Is Short and everyone needs /a way to use their watercolor hoard/ a hobby, so hey, Ninefox Gambit comic. By which I mean "a cover for #0, which will be about Cheris's all-new backstory, and one page." This reboots the story because, I mean, the books already exist; why rehash exactly? I will be uploading pages to the website as I complete them, but only announcing "updates" to a separate dedicated newsletter when I finish an entire "issue" of about 22 pages. Note that it's age-locked (18+) due to eventual adult themes.

FAQ (foxily asked questions)
What are you working on?
Back to work on the 2nd draft of CODE & CODEX (linguistics sci fantasy for adults), having spent some of February and all of March getting in edits to STARSTRIKE (Moonstorm #2 - MOONSTORM, the first book in the YA trilogy, is due out in June of this year). After CODE & CODEX I will then be switching to Moonstorm #3, CROWNWORLD. And after that, I don't have anything contracted. :)
What are you reading lately?
I'm reading C. J. Cherryh's Heavy Time for the first time and am enjoying it tremendously. I love Alliance-Union, but there's a lot of it!
What are you listening to lately?
I picked up Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter and am loving it. :) I grew up on country (mostly Anne Murray) because Texan. :)
Who's an artist you're enjoying lately?
Felix Ortiz has some gorgeous vigorous art - check out the portfolio!
What's an art supply you've fallen for?
I've tried a lot of adorable tiny/travel watercolor palettes over the years, but right now I'm enamored of this one from quackPlume on Etsy, the Mondrian mini-watercolor set. TWSBI Eco fountain pen for scale reference. :)
My paint selection here is eccentric (the most-used colors for Ninefox comic if I'm on the go). This is not a "balanced" palette; I have a more conventional warm/cool travel palette for that.
Roman Szmal Blue Sky - PW4, PB15:1
Roman Szmal Azo Red - PR144 (my favorite red watercolor pigment of all time)
Daniel Smith Quinacridone Gold - PO49 (yes, this is the real thing, and yes, it's eccentric to have this instead of an actual damn yellow)
Daniel Smith Quinacridone Rose - PV19 (I can't live without this either)
Daniel Smith Amethyst Genuine (in real life, probably helped along by some Dioxazine Violet PV23, but I like it a lot, so it stays)
Daniel Smith Lamp Black - PBk6
Hilariously, in my main/larger palette, you can tell I mostly do portraits and not botanicals because I have like twelve reds/oranges/yellows/earths and 1.5 greens (and one of them is Phthalo Green PG7, which is a great mixing green - in fact, I mostly use it to mix purple with Quinacridone Rose PV19 - but not something I often use straight).
What's a game you're playing lately?
I may have mainlined Regency Solitaire 2 on Steam Deck the moment it dropped. My husband has picked up Rogue Trader for his Windows box so I'm excited about that too! GRIM DARKNESS HERE WE COME!
I have a foxy question you haven't answered here!
Sure, please email deuceofgearsart@gmail.com and I'll get back to you!
