MOONSTORM giveaway
My author copies of MOONSTORM arrived! (Moonstorm trilogy #1, YA mecha space opera.) The book comes out on June 4 from Delacorte (USA) or June 6 from Rebellion/Solaris (UK).

I have FIVE copies to give away to readers in the USA and ONE to an international address that the USPS will let me ship to. (This is the list of countries I can’t ship to: as of this writing, that’s Afghanistan, Belarus, Brazil, Central African Republic, Haiti, Israel, Laos, Niue, Russia, Sudan, Syria, Ukraine, and Yemen.)
I apologize to those who are not in the USA: in the USA, I can use media mail. International mail starts at $50 USD, which rapidly becomes cost-prohibitive, especially when you just lost power for 24 hours thanks to a storm and are gritting your teeth in preparation for shelling out to get a generator installed. :]
Email me at deuceofgearsart@gmail.com with a header of either MOONSTORM USA (if you’re in the USA) or MOONSTORM INTERNATIONAL (if you’re not). I’ll use random.org to pick. :)

If you’re wondering where I’ve been: health, a Situation (resolved for now), and I’m currently under deadline for two books in the next three months.
FAQ (Foxily Asked Questions)
What are you working on?
I turned in line edits on STARSTRIKE (Moonstorm #2). I’m now hard at work on CODE AND CODEX, linguistics sci-fantasy for adults. After that, I’ll be drafting CROWNWORLD (Moonstorm #3).
I’m also working on a smol work-for-hire micro-TTRPG, which I’m extremely excited about. It’s tremendous fun and it’s based on one of my all-time favorite works of its type. This sort of smol design is exactly my jam when it comes to TTRPG design, and the scope is such that it’s not a huge time commitment (see above re: book deadlines).
After that, I have nothing contracted and I’m waiting to hear back from a part-time two-year M.A. program I applied to in a field I love, fingers crossed. Health-wise it’s advisable that I either take a break from writing, or that I stick to writing on spec.
What are you reading lately?
Listen, A. D. Sui’s The Dragonfly Gambit is a space opera novella from Neon Hemlock Press that I adored from the opening. Check this out:
By all accounts, I should be scared.
Intelligence and Investigations boys are overzealous. They like to break things: doors, people, entire local governments if they get the chance. Five more flights of stairs until they’re at my door. After three weeks of stealthily tracking me, taking shifts to shoot unflattering photographs from the flashing billboard across the street, my day of reckoning is finally here.
I can’t complain. It’s nice to feel wanted.
What are you listening to lately?
I loved Yuqi’s album Yuq1!
Who’s an artist you’re enjoying lately?
Check out Rachel Dawn Owens! Unearthly whimsy combined with a deeply grounded physicality.
What’s something new you’ve picked up?
I ordered myself a 향피리 (hyang piri) from South Korea; they appear to be impossible to obtain outside the country. It’s a double reed instrument, so kind of a traditional/folk “oboe.” I can get a sound out of it, which is very exciting! Practice. :)
What’s a game you’re playing lately?
I recently committed ALL the expansions for Star Realms in the mobile version (it’s also an actual card game) and have been slowly exploring them. It’s my favorite deckbuilder!
What’s a TV show you’ve enjoyed lately?
My husband and I adored the anime Frieren, which starts out as slow-burn slice of life that might best be described as “the anthropology [you know what I mean] of elves, as seen through a traveling elven mage years after the deaths of the shorter-lived members of her adventuring party.” Also an unusual and interesting take on demons. But it builds to a conclusion that’s absolutely devastating in its humanity and understanding of what kindness means, why kindness matters.
Also, Flamme is my pick for chief strategist if anyone gives me an army and choice of general. Just sayin’.
What music system did the hexarchate and heptarchate use?
Funny you should ask; I wrote terribad speculation on this to the tune of “screw rejiggering our scales, we’re just going to redefine the ‘rest’ as not really a part of the system.” Which is meta if you think about it.
How’s your own music going?
…the M.A. I applied to was in film/TV/game scoring. :D Who knows if I have a chance, but why not?
Having transferred my Sibelius and Note Performer licenses to my laptop, I hope to resume work on a small ensemble piece featuring the bassoon for a friend, and then FINALLY complete the goddamn viola concerto I have partial work for TWO movements of that I started almost THREE DECADES ago.
I have a foxy question you haven't answered here!
Sure, please email deuceofgearsart@gmail.com and I will get back to you!
And of course, a catten pic:
