Dance the Exotic Dance for Me
I’ll keep this brief - I’m under orders (heh) to get some rest due to ongoing health/other issues, but my essay Dance the Exotic Dance for Me! is now up at SFWA’s blog. It discusses the dark side of “ownvoices.”
In belated news: muccamukk’s (DW) roundup of links re: the allegations of a history of sexual assault by Neil Gaiman. I do not have any personal knowledge here; I live under a metaphorical rock and had, between boring health issues and the de gustibus accident of not being particularly interested in Gaiman’s works after college, not been keeping track of Gaiman. I’ve already run afoul of one apologist on Bluesky (Netmouse a.k.a. Anne Gray, a self-declared “smof,” former Neil Gaiman liaison, and SF conrunner whom I’ve added to my “never touch a convention this person is involved with” list) and I’m sure there are many more. To be clear, the offender is Neil Gaiman; but having people like Netmouse around him apologize away the allegations is extremely fucked up. I believe the allegations.
Yours,
