Music Sounds Better With You
I don’t know if I’ve said it before but it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster year(s). After a somber, sobering event in the spring I had some very cool encounters with capital A art (and small c culture) IN REAL LIFE. I know.
I won’t bore you with what is probably a “you had to be there” account of the details of said encounters but I have really started to “re-find my sparkle” (lol) when it comes to making music.
More to the point I’ve found myself enjoying music more, which was an unexpected happy by-product. I’ve caught myself dancing more (in the kitchen, the only room in our house with enough real estate for more than a shimmy.) I finally started to get into The Stone Roses after years of nOt GeTtInG iT.
Maybe it’s just me getting old(er), maybe it’s just the crumbling of the empire around us, idk. Jamaal Burkmar1 (absolutely brilliant dance choreographer but who has a lot to say about the arts and culture on TikTok and Instagram) had a recent post about the upcoming Paul Thomas Anderson film One Battle After Another and in it he concludes it with “…connection is not optional.”
I get it-the times they are scary and there’s probably worse to come. So I’m glad I got to share those experiences-good and bad-with people I love. I’m grateful that I get to share music and thoughts with people. It may not always be this way-heck no matter what it’s going to stop someday. Until then I’ll try to enjoy it, for what it’s worth.
Stay connected,
T
1 I don’t agree with everything he has to say-particularly about football as we support somewhat rival clubs. Which isn’t to say I don’t admit to a bias where my own club is concerned (or that he hasn’t made some good arguments) more that he lost me on a couple actually salient points he had made by using terrible examples. Que sera.
