Snail Mail Club updates.
SPRING. I obviously had to take a break from the Spring card to work on my very important Dune passion project, but I promise I’ll be getting back to Wicker Man + cats for Spring right away.
WHAT IS SNAIL MAIL CLUB? SMC members receive unique handmade cards four times per year that are inspired by the seasons + pop culture. Additional items are included in every release such as stickers, bookmarks, and other surprises. If you aren’t already a member, you can sign up through Ko-fi HERE! Thank you, SMC members!

Luna.
I asked my partner, Josh, which character from Dune would best fit Luna. He answered Alia, sister of Paul Atreides. He couldn’t really explain why, but I thought of Alia, too, because she is mysterious, intelligent, and unsettling (in a really cute way). Plus as Josh added, either one will cut a b- if needed… or if not needed! 😅 There’s no drawing of Luna as Alia yet because I was working on the other Dune illustrations, but perhaps there will be a Dune themed card someday.
Recent Inspirations.

Watching.
The Vourdalak (2023). I recently watched this French horror film based on a Tolstoy novella from 1839 titled The Family of the Vourdalak. I’m not recommending that you watch it, because it’s not for everyone (unless you are a fan of horror and/or vampire movies, then yes, I am definitely recommending it), but I’m mentioning it because of how much I loved everything about it.
It’s so exciting to find something — music, art, television, movies, etc — that feels like it was made for you or that you wish you had been involved in creating. So I guess what I’m recommending is to not give up and assume no one is making anything good anymore. Somewhere out there someone is making something just for you, you weirdo. All you have to do is find it. Or maybe you’ll just have to make it yourself so someone can find it and get inspired 🧡
(If you do decide to watch this film, I think the best way is to go into it with as little context as possible. No reviews and no previews until afterwards. Trust me, it’s worth it.)
In conclusion.
If you know me, it will probably come as no surprise to learn that I’m not really a fan of pranks (also not a big fan of surprises - go figure), but I was making fun of myself for bringing up Dune so many times in this newsletter that I thought, “Maybe I should just change the title to ‘How You Dune?’” (Inspired by the super entertaining meme shown at the bottom of this newsletter, featuring Joey from Friends).
Realizing that April Fools’ Day was approaching, I started to come up with silly Dune-inspired headlines and then doodled some images to go along with them. (You may be able to tell that I drew heavily from David Lynch’s 1984 adaptation of Dune for the images.) I threw this together over the last two days. It really made me laugh (I got to draw a pug!) so I hope you also enjoyed my first attempt at an April Fools’ joke.
So here’s my April Fools’ Day reflection — What can you do to poke a little fun at yourself or inject some silliness into your day?
What are you so obsessed with that you could create a whole newsletter about? What are the topics you would write about? The more ridiculous, the better — this is just for fun! (Please hit reply and share your ideas with me if you have time.)
What about an impromptu dance party with family, friends, or on your own to laugh at yourself, get some movement in your day, and release some tension?
Or what about finding the perfect song to belt out as an anthem for particular situations throughout the day? (If you can’t think of one that works, it’s totally okay to change the words.) It’s like having your own needle-drops in the movie soundtrack of your life. (This is definitely one of my habits. “Wind Beneath Your Wings,” “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing,” and “I Will Always Love You” are just a few that come up a lot for me, not to mention all the songs I sing to Luna. Also, please note there is a Taylor Swift song for almost everything.)
Those are some of the things I’ve come up with, so I invite you to try these or create ones that work best for you. All I’m saying is it ain’t that serious and we all need a little break from the weight of the world sometimes, so I hope you’ll get a little goofy today.
