A City Under Siege
Updates from Chicago
Friends, it’s been a tough couple of weeks here in Chicago. The presence of federal agents has proven to be destabilizing and demoralizing; each day we seem to awake to a new story of cruelty and lawlessness. Rather than write a typical reflection – frankly, I don’t have the time this week given all that is happening – I wanted to share a few snapshots which describe one of my experiences with the commander of the ICE operation in our city.
First, this Religion News Service article includes some of my experience while visiting the protests at the Broadview detention center.
Second, earlier this week my friend Skye Jethani interviewed me for his podcast. In addition to describing events on the ground, we talked about the invitation Christians must heed in this moment to love our neighbors and bear witness to our Lord Jesus.
Finally, on Wednesday night I had the privilege of preaching for my friend Rev. Dr. Charlie Dates at Salem Baptist Church. Given our current events, I chose to preach from Hebrews 10:32-39 on the topic of joyful endurance.

If you get a chance to watch the sermon, I hope it will be an encouragement to you.
I know Chicago isn’t the only city being targeted for intimidation and persecution these days, but if you think of it, would you please pray for us? Especially those made most vulnerable by the government’s attacks?
