Five Links #91
1. Making Software
A wonderful project, explaining how technology works with brilliant diagrams.
2. Don’t post project briefs on LinkedIn
Within 24 hours of posting, it had 289 comments.
I had 399 new connection requests (!!).
28 emails.
I even got 6 WhatsApp messages (all blocked and reported as spam). I didn’t even realise my phone number was accessible.
Marc asked people to DM him: the emails are an overreach, but WhatsApp-ing? That’s something else.
There are companies out there that scape ’publicly available’ contact data and consolidate them into profiles, selling access to the database for the purpose of sales. That practice in itself is problematic, and I guess that’s how people got hold of Marc’s phone number.
However they did it, going to the trouble of finding someone’s phone number to WhatsApp them about a project is invasive and gross.
3. What’s my JND?
This game tests your ability to spot the difference between two colours and it gets increasingly difficult. By the end, I felt like I’d accidentally looked directly at the sun.
4. Scroll My Mac
Another lovely app from Blake Watson (who created my favourite browser start screen). Scroll My Mac lets you scroll by clicking and dragging with your mouse point.
5. A guide to working in public
You’re not trying to convince everyone. Working in public makes it easier for the right people to find you… and easier for them to say “I’m with you” when the moment comes.
What am I up to?
- I published the first of my design process interviews, with Joshua Galinato a few weeks ago. More soon!
- My next available Unoffice Hour slot is 15 April
- I have limited availability for new projects from May.
