Absorbing

Five links for your inbox from this week.

1. Tella

I’ve been using Loom for so long that I hadn’t even considered there might be alternative screen recording apps out there. Tella has some neat features – particularly for editing – that suggest it’s worth exploring.

2. Letter and symbol misrecognition in highly legible typefaces for general, children, dyslexic, visually impaired and ageing readers

Lots of interesting stuff in here, including:

For children, the infant a is the most problematic character. It is easily misrecognised and, for some reason, has always been considered beneficial. This is not the case though. Research and testing reviewed in this paper has shown that even adults misrecognise the infant a.

3. F*ck Oatly

A site devoted to helping our fans—and the thousands of people who hate us—better understand everything that’s “wrong” with our company.

Why would we build such a website? That’s a great question! For starters, it’s super convenient to have the latest boycotts and criticisms all in one place. But more importantly, we’re not the type of company to hide from moments like these. We see all the negative headlines, posts and petitions as an inevitable consequence of trying to create positive societal change.

4. glyphhanger

A font subsetting tool from Zach Leat.

5. Tailwind CSS Color Generator

A nice colour gradient generator with easy export to Tailwind, SCSS, CSS and Figma.

Projects + other things

  • I’m currently booking projects from August onwards. Get in touch if there’s a project you would like to discuss.

  • I’m now offering Power Hours, a simple, low-risk way to get an outside perspective on your website.

  • I recently revoked my 1% For The Planet membership. I’m continuing to donate 1% of my business’ turnover, but this will now be split between projects that take action against climate change and organisations that fight muscular dystrophy.

  • My Unoffice Hours are available every other Wednesday. Next slot: 14th June.
