Five links for your inbox from this week.
1. PSA: The UK are running a test Emergency Alert on 23rd April, and you might need to switch off a hidden mobile phone
“If anyone has a secret mobile phone hidden from an abusive partner, remember to switch off or put in airplane mode etc as described below, or the phone will be activated with the loud alert on the evening of 23/04.”
The charity Refuge have also created a helpful video with instructions to turn this off for Android and iOS devices.
2. Employed and self-employed
How much tax do you pay if you’re employed and self-employed (in the UK)? This calculator will help you work it out.
3. The search element
There’s a new element in the HTML spec: search! This article is a great breakdown of this new HTML element and considerations around using it.
4. Access Guide
“A friendly introduction to digital accessibility.”
5. Maizzle
A framework to “quickly build HTML emails with utility-first CSS” (read: Tailwind).
Projects + other things
-
I’m now offering Power Hours, a simple, low-risk way to get an outside perspective on your website.
-
I recently revoked my 1% For The Planet membership. I’m continuing to donate 1% of my business’ turnover, but this will now be split between projects that take action against climate change and organisations that fight muscular dystrophy.
-
I’m currently booking projects from May onwards. Get in touch if there’s a project you would like to discuss.
-
My Unoffice Hours are available every other Wednesday. Next slot: 3rd May.
