Five links for your inbox from this week.
1. Screen Time won’t protect your iCloud account
Last week, I wrote about a Screen Time tip to help prevent thieves taking control of iCloud accounts. It turns out this tip won’t stop this: even if you skip the step to set a passcode backup, there’s still an option to use the passcode in the forgotten password flow.
I’ve updated the article to reflect this, but this step might buy some time if a thief doesn’t understand why the account section of a phone is greyed out.
Better yet: guard your passcode like you would your credit card SIM.
2. Browserosaurus
“Select from any of your installed browsers when clicking a link in a non-browser app.” (macOS)
3. Oxfam’s Inclusive Language Guide
“Language has the power to reinforce or deconstruct systems of power that maintain poverty, inequality and suffering. As we are making commitments to decolonization in practice, it is important that we do not forget the role of language and communications in the context of inequality. The Inclusive Language Guide is a resource to support people in our sector who have to communicate in English to think about how the way they write can subvert or inadvertently reinforce intersecting forms of inequality that we work to end.”
4. Type By Foundry
Some really nice type from this foundry, listed by type designer (a nice but uncommon touch).
5. Cork
A macOS GUI for Homebrew.
Projects + other things
-
I’m now offering Power Hours, a simple, low-risk way to get an outside perspective on your website.
-
I recently revoked my 1% For The Planet membership. I’m continuing to donate 1% of my business’ turnover, but this will now be split between projects that take action against climate change and organisations that fight muscular dystrophy.
-
I’m currently booking projects from May onwards. Get in touch if there’s a project you would like to discuss.
-
My Unoffice Hours are available every other Wednesday. Next slot: 22nd March.
