Five links for your inbox from this week.
1. iPhone Screen Time as a security tool
A little over a week, Joanna Stern from the WSJ reported how thieves shoulder-surf people’s iPhone passcodes then steal the phone.
With the phone and passcode alone, thieves are able to reset the user’s iCloud account. This locks the owner out of their iCloud account forever, losing irreplaceable photos, notes and other things along with it.
Three revelations from this:
- FaceID and TouchID are not only better to use in public, but they always fallback to the passcode - they’re not a replacement for it
- Even though similar steps are available on Android phones, it seems they’re less likely to be targeted because of a lower resale value (who could’ve guessed buying an Android would be a security hack)
- iPhones owners can use the Screen Time feature to prevent thieves changing their iCloud account password
2. Coffee
A ‘tiny time tracker’ for macOS.
3. Standard Typeface
A beautiful sans serif distributed under the Open Font License.
4. Easing Gradients
Create and preview easing gradients in CSS.
5. Caliste
A characterful serif available in text and display formats.
Projects + other things
-
I recently revoked my 1% For The Planet membership. I’m continuing to donate 1% of my business’ turnover, but this will now be split between projects that take action against climate change and organisations that fight muscular dystrophy.
-
I’m currently booking projects from May onwards. Get in touch if there’s a project you would like to discuss.

My Unoffice Hours are available every other Wednesday. Next slot: 22nd March.
