Five links for your inbox from this week.

1. Internet Explorer is gone

On February 14 – yes, Valentine’s Day – Microsoft put Internet Explorer to bed with an update to Microsoft Edge. Finally.

2. Interview with Timnit Gebru on AI hype

I’m a regular listener to the Tech Won’t Save Us podcast – it covers lots of tech issues from a sensibly critical view. This interview with Timnit Gebru is particularly relevant right now.

The episode looks at the hype around AI, what it is and isn’t, why companies are incentivised to label tech ‘AI’, and much more.

3. Elongineering

“Attempting to build by loudly proclaiming that every problem is easy and that the people who did it before are incompetent; slowly coming to understand why things were done the way they were for reasons that you didn’t actually understand; and finally, returning to loud proclaiming instead of admitting you were wrong and learning from your mistakes.”

4. Facebook and their lawyers called out for stonewalling the courts

David Carroll’s short thread is worth reading, as is the introduction of the linked document justifying the reasons for financial sanctions.

5. Tints and shades generator

Generate various shades of colours in 10% steps.
