1. Contra Chrome
This is a great explainer of how Google tracks users through Chrome. It’s a cartoon, so super easy to digest as well. It’s been so popular, the site ran out of bandwidth in April. TL;DR use Firefox or Safari (or Edge/Brave if you must stick with a Chromium-based browser).
2. Facebook doesn’t know what it does with your data or where it goes
One would think Facebook’s ‘open border’ approach to user data will come back to bite through privacy regulation at some point (and hopefully not through a meaningless fine).
3. Matt Stoller on the Amazon Prime scam
Amazon Prime offers lots of benefits – free shipping, video, music and other things. Free shipping alone costs Amazon more than it charges for each individual subscriber, so how does Amazon make money? This fifteen-minute explainer breaks down the hidden costs of Prime.
4. Logo Package Express Extension
Logos have to be prepped and organised into lots of different shapes and sizes. This neat Adobe Illustrator extension helps to speed that process up.
5. Copy and paste spaces
Sometimes you need a space to correct something in typography. Or perhaps you want to write @handle on Twitter without tagging the [un]related account with that username. You can do this by adding a zero-width space between the @ and the handle. This website lets you easily copy and paste lots of different spaces – super handy!
