Absorbing

Five links for your inbox from this week.

1. Affinity launches new apps

I’ve been using Affinity software for a couple of years and they offer a genuinely competitive alternative to Adobe. This week, they’ve announced the 2.0 versions of their apps.

Unlike Adobe, Affinity’s software is purchased as a one-time fee, with free updates until the next major release. Affinity 1.0 has been around since at least 2015 as far as I can tell – one reasonably-priced paid upgrade every seven years seems like a pretty good deal to me.

The best endorsement I can give is that I have the Creative Cloud Suite, but default to using the Affinity equivalents (Photo = Photoshop, Designer = Illustrator, Publisher = InDesign). They load faster and are generally much more stable.

This launch comes with an offer for 40% off and the introduction of a Universal Licence – £90 for all their apps on all platforms (including the limited time offer). This is a steal but don’t fret if you can’t take advantage of this now – Affinity run semi-regular sales with decent discounts.

2. Huggg

You want to buy a gift for someone but don’t have their address – how do you send them something without asking for it? Huggg looks like a great solution: place an order, then share a link with the recipient so they can add their delivery details.

3. Typewolf

After a brief hiatus, one of my favourite design-inspiration sites is back.

4. Timery

If you use Toggl to track time, this app makes tracking time even easier on Apple devices.

5. Refurb Tracker

Refurb Tracker lets you set alerts for new inventory to Apple’s refurbished store. Well-worth taking a note of this even if you don’t need it right now.
