Absorbing

Five links for your inbox from this week.

1. Google Maps Hack

99 smartphones in a handcart causing ‘traffic jams’ in Google Maps.

2. Trevor Noah on British politics

The current government aside, I think most people would agree that UK politics is a hot mess right now. We’re on our second consecutive Prime Minster without a general election (and this one wasn’t even elected to the role by his party or members). This pithy commentary of where Britain is and how we got here is worth a watch.

3. Subtle macOS Ventura features

Two things of note from this video:

  1. macOS can now generate background noise to help you focus (System Settings > Accessibility > Audio > Background Sounds)
  2. Continuity camera isn’t just for live calls, you can record with it, too

4. Redaction

A fascinating typeface with an equally interesting background.

5. Live lightning strikes UK

TW: Flashing lights. The UK recently had a spate of lightning strikes – this site shows them in real-time.
