Hope you are feeling the spring of May and soon it will be June!
There’s a LOT on my desk this month so here goes…
Let’s start with Self-Doubt since that’s where I dwell.
Doubter’s Anonymous continues and we’ve been learning a lot together. Join if You dare to tell Doubt where to stick it :)
Next Meetings are June 7 and June 21st. Sign up on the form to join or just reply to this email.
I’ve finished recording my audiobook and am deep into editing which has taken twice as long as recording the actual book. I have a new relationship with my lip smacks, pre-breaths, and the tired sound my voice has after I’ve been reading for awhile. I plan to release the audiobook soon and will announce the details next month. I am planting the seed now that I’d love to get your help with reviews if you are able!
I’ll be appearing at my first bookstore event ever! It’s a great indie bookstore in Redmond called “Brick and Mortar Books”
Please join me on Monday June 3 at
Brick & Mortar Books
7430 164th Ave NE Suite B105 in Redmond (at Town Center Mall)
Here’s the Facebook invite: https://fb.me/e/5mequOxKT
I promise to buy drinks for all who attend and make it a fun celebration.
The big news this month is that some music I wrote and co-produced with Michael Shrieve 20+ years ago has finally been released in a beautiful new album called Drums of Compassion. Our track is called The Fierce Energy of Love. I love hearing it now all these years later and remembering so many great times we had making music together.
I’ve been participating in a songwriting group where we write four songs in eight weeks based on prompts they created for us. It’s been a really interesting way to write music that got me thinking of my position as a songwriter isn’t that I need to create everything. Just show up and work with the prompt and create. I’ve written three new songs in 6 weeks and have another one brewing for delivery on Sunday. I’ll share more soon when I have versions that are a little less raw but I’m loving the idea of having deadlines to help me complete creative work.
In big family news, Amber and I played our first open mic together. She sang a beautiful version of Angel of Montgomery and it was a thrill to find this new way to love each other… through song and playing music together. We are excited already for the next one. I’ll do a blog post soon about Open Mics and the value.
To keep up with my promise or releasing new music this month, I’m sharing a youtube video of my first open mic appearance singing one of my first songs called Holding Me.
Here are a couple pieces I’ve published recently.
How do you feel about the F-word?
Failure is a concept that I wish I had a better relationship with. I wrote this piece years ago but I reposted it this month and think it is as true as ever. When we embrace failure as a chance to learn, we can stay in a growth mindset. This is hard to remember in the moment but so powerful when we do. I hope this article helps you.
Body Doubling
I also wrote a post about working on Focusmate.com with random strangers. I highly suggest you try Focusmate if you haven’t. I get nothing from this, just sharing as a way to inspire. I use it every week these days and I have several friends and clients that also use it. I’m on a Focusmate session right now typing up this newsletter, and look it worked! You are reading it now. https://davehilljr.substack.com/p/how-to-unlock-productivity-with-random
