GraphQL+Analytics, MLOps, Code Review 101

  • Code Reviews 101:The Golden Rules of Code Reviews.

  • Tim Ferriss posted this, so it got wide distribution, but 103 Bits of Advice I Wish I Had Known is good if you haven’t seen it, including:

    • About 99% of the time, the right time is right now.
    • No one is as impressed with your possessions as you are.
    • Dont keep making the same mistakes; try to make new mistakes.
    • Don’t wait for the storm to pass; dance in the rain.
  • Great read: How to Chart Your Engineering Career Path: IC, Manager or Technical Founder. Some nuggets:

    • The best engineers I’ve worked with … can think through a problem really deeply and are endlessly curious.
    • Give feedback like an Olympic coach.
    • Debate without ego.
  • Related: How to determine if you’re ready to be a manager.

  • An informative twitter thread that explains foundational principals for MLOps.

  • A simple (video) explanation of unit testing in python.

  • Nice little intro to logging in python like a pro.

  • How to build an Analytics API with GraphQL. Super relevant for what we’re working on right now.

  • I can never get enough of zsh and vim config hacks.

  • Another gem from Martin Heinz: Python List Comprehensions Are More Powerful Than You Might Think

  • Here is a nice overview of Python String Methods. The author (Trey Hunter) has an interesting site that would be a good reference for folks looking to improve their python skills.

  • I found Aditya Agarwal‘s Your CTO Should Actually Be Technical interesting. One provocative argument:

    • It’s hard to take your leader seriously if you do not feel deep down that they could do your job if needed.
  • Nick Higham literally wrote the book on technical writing, and while my day-to-day work doesn’t involve as much linear algebra as I’d like, I still loved reading the Seven Sins of Numerical Linear Algebra.
