Dear humans,
In this newsletter I want to tell you about stuff that is on my mind as well as showing you some of my art.
I have been thinking and researching a lot about alternative ways of staying connected with others that does not depend on big tech's social media platforms.
My own reasons for not just deleting my accounts on facebook and instagram (yet) are mainly to be able to stay up to date with events and promoting my own events, such as creative coding workshop or performing with my live visuals, to people who follow me.
The vision with this newsletter is to have a slower medium for communicating about my art as well as ideas and projects I'm working on regarding how we can use digital technology to our own benefits instead of being exploited by big tech.
Here are some visuals I made recently in the live coding language called Punctual
You can take the code you see on the screenshots and type it in on dktr0.github.io/punctual to try it for yourself.
On April 30th I deactivated my facebook and instagram accounts with the goal to not log in again for the whole month of May.
So far I have not had the need or urge to log in again. But I also did my homework and made sure I got access to what I needed. Most of my contacts already know to contact me via eg. Signal and not facebooks messenger. And I took note of any events on facebook that I might want to join, so I had that info in my calendar. It is still possible to access the pages for public events on facebook as long as you save the links somewhere.
Instead I've been using mastodon more, but since it only shows me stuff that I chose to follow it is not as addictive as meta's platforms. You can follow me at: @sorenpeter@norrebro.space
The idea of a 30 days digital declutter comes from Cal Newport's book Digital Minimalism, that I highly recommend reading. You can also start with this article including a short video: Addicted to your phone? How a 30-day digital detox can help break the screen time cycle
In the beginning of 2025 there was a growing social movement to leave big techs social media and I got involved in a group here in Copenhagen where we are organizing monthly events where people can get help to do that. The idea is to meet after work (called fyraften in Danish) to hang out and talk about our (mis)use of technology and teaching each other how to use alternatives to big tech.
At our our event in May I did a small workshop on how to create you own website. You can see my notes for it on: fyraften.neocities.org
Next Fyraften-event will on June 11th. More info later via our signal group and on: dukop.dk
I'v added a new feature to my website (darch.dk), where each page now has this form at the bottom:
For now all it does is open up your email client and you can send me your comment that way. When (if?) I receive any feedback I can then add it manually to the relevant pages.
I got the idea from these two blog posts: My Cheapskate Commenting System and Adding The Post Title To My "Reply By Email" Button

Thank you for reading. I hope enjoyed it and let me know what this sparked in you?
Sincerely,
Søren Peter
