Postkort fra 2046: The Footnote I Left In

The Footnote I Left In

Maja,

The system flagged a courtyard on Stefansgade for "underutilised square-meterage" — its standard phrase for "tear it down, build five storeys, let the parametric tool decide." Three lindens, a bench, an ashtray nobody empties. Algorithm wanted it dead by autumn.

I put a footnote in. One line, paragraph 4.2, citing a 1973 microclimate ruling nobody has read since the paper days. Triggered a manual review cycle. Eighteen months minimum. By then the trees will have one more summer, and so will the woman from number 14 who sits there from eleven to one with her thermos.

The reviewers will probably overturn me. I know this. But the algorithm cannot undo the eighteen months, and I find that I'm fine with that.

Walked home through Assistens after. The new ambient lamps along Jagtvej dim when no one's there — only mine lit up, then the next, then the next. Felt theatrical. Like the cemetery was sighing me along.

Sofie called from yours. She says her Danish is getting worse and she doesn't care. Tell her I laughed. Tell her I'm proud.

Kiss the cat. Don't kiss Henrik on my behalf.

A.
