Postkort fra 2044: Bastian's Collar

Bastian's Collar

Kære Alma

It has rained here for four days. Not hard rain. The boring kind that just keeps going. Mor says it is good for the lime trees on our street and I said the lime trees never thank anybody and she laughed for a long time which was more than the joke deserved.

I have to tell you something. Bastian is fourteen now. The vet gave him a collar that reads his heart and sends it to her, so she knows before we do. It glows a little amber when he sleeps. → (it looks like a tiny streetlight)

Here is the thing. I checked it maybe nine times yesterday. Then I stopped, because I realised I was watching the collar instead of watching him. So last night I put my hand on his side and just felt it myself, the old way, and it was better. Slower but better.

He sleeps on my drawing hand. I draw the dragons one-handed. They come out worse. I don't mind.

Do cats in Skagen live longer because of the sea air? You can ask someone. I would like a real answer, not a nice one.

Oskar (og Bastian)
