Postkort fra 2043: Too Owned to Repair

Poul,
They have declared my heat pump dead. Not broken — dead. A letter, very polite, saying the model has reached "end of support" and the control board will stop speaking to the grid in November. Eleven years old. Bearings like new. I opened it up and there is nothing wrong in there that a man with a soldering iron and an evening could not settle.
So that is what we did. Six of us at the commons on Sluseholmen, four of the same pumps on the bench, and a girl from DTU who had written her own controller and put it up for anyone to use. We flashed all four. Mine ran quieter afterward than it did new. I have logged it, signed it, and if the utility wants to argue they can come down to the boat and argue in the wind, which has been northwest and vicious all week.
Poul, they keep telling us the machines have gotten too clever to repair. Not true. They have gotten too owned to repair. Different problem, and one we can solve with a screwdriver.
Come up in October. There is a second pump on the bench with your name on it.
L.
PS: Gale took the tarpaulin off the aft deck. Fine. Better view.
