Postkort fra 2039: The Whale Page

Kæreste Kasper,
The library in Valby has started a thing on Wednesdays where old people sit and listen to children read. I signed up because I thought I would be the one helping. Mostly I sit in a chair that squeaks while a boy called Villads reads to me about a whale.
He is seven and he reads slowly and badly, which is of course the entire point... The reading-tutor on the table keeps offering to correct him in a very kind voice, and Villads and I have agreed to leave it switched off. It sulks. It files our session as incomplete. Let it.
Yesterday he stopped in the middle of a page and asked me whether whales know that they are big. I said I didn't think so. He looked relieved.
Your grandfather would have loved this. Preben always said reading aloud was the only technology that ever actually worked, and he said it in a voice like he had invented the idea himself... Rain all morning here. The good kind, straight down, no wind.
Come at efterårsferie. Bring your washing, I truly don't mind.
Din mormor
