Boston, Edinburgh: come say hello...
My dear readers,
I am here to announce two events, and to share a cute dog picture!
Your author (Dan Bouk, in case you've forgotten) will be at the Cary Library in Lexington, MA on Thursday (4/25) at 7pm to talk about Democracy's Data. MORE INFO HERE.
There's plenty more to say about the census, and I will be saying things!
But for now, I'm shifting most of my energies to trying to understand another fundamental governing process that appears to be very boring: budgeting!
If you're in Edinburgh (as in, Scotland) come out on 13 May 2024 for only my second public presentation of preliminary research on the history of the New York City budget. (You can also join online from anywhere!) MORE INFO HERE.
At that talk, I promise to display and talk about this picture of a dog whose name was (wait for it....)
BUDGET!
My friend, the excellent historian of policy, law, and resistance to the welfare state, Brooke Depenbusch, shared that photo with me. Do you have strange budget stories or images? Send them my way!
If all goes well, this newsletter will be coming to you more often in coming months. But fear not, it will remain a very occasional newsletter.
Take care all, and maybe I'll see some of you on the road...
Dan
