πŸ‘‘ October Dispatch: Remembering Hannibal Collins, the King of Games

The King of Games

Back when I ran the Game Forge and we had our weekly Dev Night events, Hannibal Collins was a constant presence. He was there nearly every week of the five-ish years we held space for that community, always with a big smile, a warm demeanor, and a willingness to try damn near anything.

Hannibal passed on Sept 7, and I've been thinking a lot just how fully he embodied the idea of living life to its fullest. I was blessed to be able to attend his service and hear so many stories from people whose lives he touched by just being fully, authentically, unapologetically himself.

His Super Novice podcast really said it best:

I don’t see myself as a jack of all trades as much as a Super Novice, with a far amount of skills in very different things. I want to share some of the basics I learned along the way and help others become Super Novices as well.

He learned and did things not to become the best or win awards, but out of a love of learning and doing.

A lot of people talk big game about living every day like it could be your last, and will use that mantra to justify these grandiose aims (or just fall into hedonism). In Hannibal, we have an example of someone who knew that fragility for a fact, and chose a quiet, vibrant, earnest love of the fullness of life that is as humble as it is awe-inspiring.

Long live the King of Games.
