π August Dispatch: On Jamaica, and letting things grow
π―π² Jamaica
I've just come back from a week in Jamaica with my family, putting my grandparents to rest in Above Rocks (near Kingston).
Every time I go back home, I'm amazed by how grounding it feels to be with family, connect with my roots, and touch road. We have a plot of land my great-grandfather tended that is still in our family, and the things he planted are still bearing fruit β cocoa, ackee, nutmeg, mango. Even bamboo that had been left is now towering some 70ft in the air.
Coming from the US, where so much emphasis is placed on making things happen, there's something sacred in seeing how much can flourish if you simply create an environment and allow things to happen.
While I was there, I was able to connect with Dr. Kirt Henry of the African Carribean Institute of Jamaica (ACIJ). They do incredible archival and research work in traditional storytelling forms across the island, and it was a true honor to be connected. Deep conversations, rich culture, and inspiration all around.
π Space Opera
Juneβs Space Opera was a major milestone β and it landed. I'm still not sure how we managed to land that plane, but it was everything I could have hoped for and more
Huge thanks to everyone who came out, participated, or supported. It meant the world, the galaxy, the universe. I can't wait to blast off with y'all again.

Work continues on Olamina β a long-form, communal storytelling journey Iβm crafting.
Iβm looking to begin a semi-regular practice around this soon. More to come as the shape reveals itself. In the meantime, you can join the waitlist as we build out our communal offerings.
