Friends of Cwmdu Music–next concert
Less than three weeks until our next concert (Friday 8th May, 7.30pm, St. Michael & All Angels Church, Cwmdu, NP8 1RW) with the Fibonacci Quartet! Tickets are available online or at-the-door (cash or card). And don’t forget our concessionary options (see previous link).
Fibonacci Quartet is fast gaining a reputation as one of the UK’s most compelling young ensembles. They have already turned heads at London’s Wigmore Hall and been snapped up by YCAT (the Young Concert Artists Trust) which identifies and supports the early careers of exceptional young musicians. Quite the endorsement.
We’re so lucky that they’re coming to Cwmdu and also that they are playing Joseph Haydn’s beautiful D major quartet, known as ‘The Lark’. Its nickname comes from the chirrupy melody in the first movement–very appropriate for the time of year. ‘The Lark’ is often paired with Haydn’s B flat quartet ‘Sunrise’ which is equally evocative. Have a listen to them performing ‘Sunrise’ at Wigmore Hall, it gives a lovely flavour of what’s in store (YouTube link).
Programme
Haydn: String Quartet Op. 64 No. 5 in D Major ‘The Lark’
Janacek: String Quartet No. 2 ‘Intimate Letters’
Interval
Schumann: String Quartet No. 3 in A Major
