I don't know of a funny way to say that this country is a trash fire and every day is a new disappointment but truly it feels like we're just seeing a new low every other day. I know you don't open my silly newsletter to be told more sad things, but like, I'm sure you've seen the
quote from Watchman about the sad clown and there's really only so much confetti you can throw while being upset before stepping back and realizing the funny hot takes aren't really worth it.
I'm sure you've seen plenty of things on the internet but I'm just going to add in these few links:
- An IG post about How to handle self care when the news is difficult and another post about handling collective grief.
- If you feel up to it, here's a video from the Warriors basketball coach Steve Kerr, talking about the tragedy about how things have been like this for years.
- Anne Helen Petersen had a wonderful piece she wrote yesterday about the tragedy of living in a control that is being choke held by minority rule and how these things keep fucking happening.
- Shout out to a fitness brand I follow putting together resources in one easily accessible place.
- The Onion with the most reposted article to date.
:/
On the eve of what I'm assuming a bunch of y'all have for a holiday weekend (where it might rain. Again), I hope you have a wonderful time seeing friends, family, or maybe just enjoying the time not being spent working.
Before I go, I'm going to send along a few things that have, if nothing else, distracted me and made me smile in the last few days. Maybe they will distract you as well.
- John Oliver's latest segment is all about Subway (sandwiches, not the MTA), and there's a whole segment within it about how they are a center piece in so many k-dramas. Really, it's kinda weird how many there are.
- Insider did a piece about how the animation of hair has changed so much at Disney, really being kicked off with 2010's Tangled.
- And here is a fun photo of a man who is a self-proclaimed (or internet proclaimed) wombat whisperer. It's cute.
Hope one of these made you smile cause I think need joy to pick up and keep going.
Stay well, friends.
