time to ring in the new year!
It's almost 2022 so happy Thursday y'all.
I know most people are enjoying time off (or, well, if you're not, you're so zoned out that you might as well be off), but all I have to say is Happy early New Year. I would say I hope you set some good resolutions for 2022 but honestly, screw resolutions. Set goals. Start building habits. If you say you're going to work out on January 1st and then you don't, does that mean you don't work out for an entire year because you failed?
Nah - instead, start today (or, idk, Monday), and just maybe work out for 10 minutes. Maybe cook half of a meal. Maybe throw out your entire plant collection because even the sight of a green growing thing makes you hulk out in rage.
Oops, sorry, that was for me.
Either way, I've been reading a bunch of business books (ick!) and below are a few to get you started if you need a boost:
Onto the recs:

Either way, I've been reading a bunch of business books (ick!) and below are a few to get you started if you need a boost:
- Atomic Habits by James Clear - yes. I know. Everyone recommends this one. But there's a reason for it.
- The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg - pretty good! Weird chapter on Civil Rights but hey - I warned you.
- Start with Why by Simon Sinek - I'm not building the damn wheel okay, it's a good book about figuring out why you do anything in your business/work. People read it for a reason. Or watch his TedTalk if you don't feel like reading.
- Broke Millennial by Erin Lowry - Look, before Oct 2020, I had no idea how to invest any money. The whole Broke Millennials series was really helpful! And a bit funny.
- Professional Troublemaker by Luvvie Ajayi Jones - lots of good insightful information about how to hype yourself up and keep trying to make a fuss in the best way.
- More Than Enough by Elaine Welteroth - I used to be so jealous of her, being the youngest editor in chief at a magazine by age 29. But honestly? Reading her book and seeing a) how hard she worked to get where she was and b) the fact that she was constantly screwed over by people because of how hard she was willing to work really opened my eyes.
- No Hard Feelings by Liz Fosslien and Mollie West Duffy - honestly, a really interesting look at how you can handle your own stress, emotions, and not drop kick and stab someone in the office. ....I mean. Have the best work experience that you can. :)
- Maybe You Should Talk To Someone by Lori Gottlieb - What is this list now. But definitely a good book if you're on the fence about maybe going to therapy. Which! tbh we probably all should!
- Greenlights by Matthew Mcconaughey - this book was amazing and you should 100% read it; this man fascinates me. Will it help you built habits? I don't care - this is my newsletter!
- The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller - you need to clear our those tears somehow!
Onto the recs:
- I just discovered the existence of hourly fox? Which is just so fucking cute? Go look at these foxes. This is a baby fox. Sleeping. just. UGH.
- If you haven't seen Encanto by Disney - you should because it's delightful. Truly, dealing with generational trauma - through song! But! This is a video pairing a part of the song with the dance performance that was made for the animators to reference? Idk I think it's really cool.
- Speaking of watching things - Leverage! I always forget how delightful a show this is and I just finished watching the ...renewed show's last episode (Leverage: Redemption) and it's STILL delightful. You wanna watch rich people get their comeuppance after screwing over the little guy? Yes! I love the family element of the show and the new show even made it cozier, somehow. If you have a streaming service, you can watch for free on IMDBtv or stalk TNT and see if you can catch a rerun.
