So happy Thursday.
My GOD is Mercury in gatorade or something?? Almost everyone I know has had just an absolute fucking awful week. According to my friend Melissa, "Venus is doing funky shit. anything to do with any sort of relationship is 🥴" which, tbh, is everything, is it not???
Gosh. I had the beginnings of a cute newsletter written up but I'm saving it because I don't have the energy to edit it. Monday started bad, Tuesday continued, Wednesday was fine (okay it was fun, as it always is to see friend), and today I had a meeting I was so nervous about my Apple Watch was like "Your heart rate is at 150 after being inactive. Are you working out?" which,
rude, but also there's nothing like staring at someone you used to watch on television and being the one to have to give them bad news!!!
Goodness. But honestly (and I'm
working on being positive), not everything this week was a wash. I found a beautiful Monstera at Trader Joes yesterday (don't ask about the plant no buy. It's going bad). I got dinner with a friend last night (hi Jason!). My favorite beverage was on sale and I stocked up and the cashier forgot to ring up my candy. I went to Target after work and went a little ham but got something I'm super excited about.
On the flip side, I did break my grocery cart (rip six years), had two really rude encounters while out in the world, and the stressful work problem that started on last week will continue to be stressful tomorrow because
I truly am in hell.
Ahem.
But until then, I'm going to relax and let my brain try to calm down and oh YEAH EAT DINNER it's almost 10pm.
Recs!
- Idk if you know who Taylor Tomlinson is, but she has a bunch of hilarious standup specials on Netflix. She was interviewed by Penn Badgley (my brain tried to call him Dan from Gossip Girl... or Joe from You) on his podcast Podcrushed. I'm not going to lie - if you're not down for a kind of sad listen, maybe skip this rec! She's pretty frank both in this discussion and in her stand up (in her last one, she has a six minute "joke" about her dead mom. It's not so much a joke as her like, processing grief through comedy. Idk, I thought it was funny but I also have the circumstances that make it more relatable) but this was a really interesting listen if you're up for it.
- "Brie just show us the D&D that we've come to expect" - if you insist. So I finished another season of Dimension 20's show, this one being season two of The Unsleeping City, which is a story set in New York but there's ~magic~ (trailer here!) and it made me so... sad. It was an excellent season, it was such a great way to wrap things up, but it was fascinating being like wow, these characters are having a good time in New York saving the day and kicking ass and I'm freaking out over a celeb's social media team being fucking useless. ...Ahem. Anyway - if you're curious about the show after the trailer, the entire first season is actually on YouTube! You don't have an excuse anymore - get to it!
- I might have sent this video already, but it's been a week, forgive me. But here is a short video about how movies...aren't what they used to be. Studios are so focused on what will be guaranteed to make money that the art of film is being lost in studios. Great quote from the video is "Can you even quote a line from Aquaman?" Because besides the weird "Africa" remix by Pitbull, I cannot!
Anyway thank you for reading my rambling. I do apologize - I was really excited to talk about a topic and this week hit me like a sledge hammer. I hope you have a great weekend.
