Hello everyone! Happy Thursday. Apologies for the delay - I overextended myself this week and gifted myself 60 points of psychic damage!!! Oof.
This one is going to be a little shorter because I have... things to do! But I had a lovely week where a bunch of colleagues went to get dinner, I had both a mentee and an intern ask me for advice (which is weird because I have advice to give???), and also I am so tired and could truly sleep for the next four years. But anyway - onto recommendations.
First off, if you have the chance to watch the Broadway run of
Sweeney Todd with Josh Groban - run! Don't walk, run to get tickets! I love that show - I saw the movie in the 2000s and then worked on the set dec of the show when I was in college (you don't know fear until you have to do that chair drop silent. I did not succeed but I was not an actor!), and so I know the show backwards and forwards. And Josh was incredible! His voice? Like butter as he sang about murder.
Wonderful. The entire cast was so good. I recommend! Here he is with
Colbert talking about it and here he is with
CBS Sunday Morning, where there are snippets of him singing. Also - I saw him on his Broadway debut,
Natasha Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812. He was also great there!
I also watched a movie called
Suzume and honestly, even if you watch the trailer, you'll only walk away with a vibe. It's a story about a girl who has to close doors. ...yeah. But I trusted the filmmaker so I went to see it with a friend and WHEW BOY did I enjoy it. But there was one thing where I'm still SO MAD they did something because how DARE you do that, but considering what I'm upset about is a spoiler, I guess you'll have to watch it to understand. But what you can understand without being spoiled is the
soundtrack, which is
incredible. My personal favorite song is
Sky Over Tokyo (linked directly here) because it's haunting as hell. Even without the knowledge of the movie, the soundtrack is great!
And finally, idk, I kept coming across the song on Youtube, but
Put Yourself First from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is hilarious. I keep thinking of the line "Wear fake eyelids just for yourself" for the last week so now I'm subjecting you all to it.
Bye!!
