sometimes, when making art, I just screeeeeeam
Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh -- anyone else have a week? I barely slept. I MESSED UP MY WORDLE SCORE. Everything is coming up garbage.
Speaking of coming up garbage, I got all my pottery back and BUDDY. WELL.
As someone who is a ~perfectionist~ making pottery was already pretty difficult to do. After weeks of working on my pottery, I finally finally figured out how to make the perfect cup. The perfect bowl. And even though the bowl got a little chipped because yours truly messed up a bit (ie, accidentally hit the foot pedal :( ), it was beautiful overall.
And then it came down to glazing it. And as long and tedious of a process was making it, somehow I feel like I ruined everything in glazing it.
On the surface - okay yes, there are a few I messed up by not giving them a thick enough coat but that's first time/second time glazing mistakes. I'm trying to not hold those against me too badly. But the colors? I could only assume how the colors would work out. So while technically it's not my fault for not knowing exactly how the colors would come out in the glaze.... there was a color wall that gave an idea of how the colors might come out? So! Truly both not and is my fault (kinda?).
But this is not to belabor my ugly pottery (but then again, I made ten pottery pieces; can't say that's something I've done frequently!), but gosh, I feel like there aren't a ton of things that you do where you can put your heart and soul on it and build it up bigger and bigger, and then in the final moments, you ruin it (even if in only your eyes). Maybe a big presentation where you know everything but get stage fright at the last minute? Maybe in growing a big plant and then trimming it back too much?? Oh gosh - when you cook a dish and you think you're being artistic and add in a special spice at the end and ruin the entire thing?? Awful.
I feel like art, weirdly enough, is so much like that. You can over trim a pottery piece or underglaze one; you can add in too much color on an oil painting and then have to wait like two weeks as it dries and you just stare in a rage that you shouldn't have added that color in. I guess that is both the beauty and the curse with a lot of art forms - you're the one who gets to decide when the tinkering is done, but a) is it ever???) and b) what happens when you tinker too far??
Thank goodness writing at least allows you to save your drafts in other documents if you realize you cut too much (now forgetting to save/your computer shutting down before you can save? Different! Still awful! But not your fault, even if you blame yourself).
But anyway, you didn't come here to read about my art woes, you came to SEE (some of) MY TERRIBLE POTTERY so let's get to it. Here's a few, including my mugs and my best made bowl!, and the rest you can see on my instagram!

- First off, it's tax season and I just did my taxes blegh. Second, Chris Flemmings is hilarious (he did the Gayle series which is always worth a watch), but like why is his song, Sick Jan, a bop? And third -- through this song I learned that you can't claim a home office if you do anything else in that room?? I hate learning through a silly video! Dammit. But if you claim a home office, and the IRS discovers you do more in that room beyond work....... then it's off to Whitey Bulgers' final Airbnb! (it's from the ...song). Truly, the Tax Season bop of the century. Also remember in 2020 when we were like "But how will YouTubers continue to be ridic if we can't go out in public?" Well, look no further. I have been singing this song since I first heard it. It's incredible. Amazing. *chefs kiss*
- also as a side note, did you know that if your birth name isn't, say, the name you thought it was for 25 years of your life, doing your taxes will help with that? I mean, it won't help, but you'll learn the truth! Thanks MOM.

- This video from the Vinny Thomas is hilarious -- mocking people who were freaking out about POC in the new Lord of the Rings television show. "I've... been to Europe. They fought wars... on dragons, obviously." Also as this was being written, he had a new video mocking a certain celeb who said we all need to work more. And you know what? The Galactic Federation Application video is gold.
- So I played a lovely RPG game last week called Alice is Missing and I have never been so stressed!!! It's all text based so you and your friends are "texting" trying to figure out what happened to Alice and there's a count down timer because it's a 90 minute game and there's music to go with it. And the music! is! Beautiful!!! Gosh, even without the game, I would listen to this.
