I really don't have anything today, y'all. This week wiped me the fuck out, highlighted with a migraine that almost made me throw up on camera. :/ But still I endure and make do.
But all I will say, in case you hadn't heard this news already, in a world that is so shitty and terrible and things are sad on every angle, when you can be a JK Rowling, why not be a
Rick Riordan? When you see awful things happening and you have the small power to fix them, why not throw your weight behind it, whether it's apologizing for your past actions, building an
imprint to uplift underrepresented people, or be prepared to talk against the assholes of the world who are willing to bully a twelve year old for not being their exact representation of a character?
Be the better person.
Anyway, onto links my friends.
- I really like Binging With Babish and I always like a good interview, so this interview where he talks about the way he got into Youtube, the struggles he's had, and advice he wants to give was a good listen for anyone who is interested in becoming a creator, or even for dealing with burnout in general.
- Here's an article about a woman happened to buy a bust at Goodwill.... that was actually from Ancient Rome. How did it end up in Texas, when it originally was last traced in Germany? Well... I'm not saying that this book about Operation Paperclip talked about how the United States brought Nazi scientists to America and how they settled across a lot of the south..... but I am linking it.
- I finished a couple of excellent books that are so different from each other - The City We Became by N.J. Jemisin, and The Daughter of Doctor Moreau by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. But both technically .... fantastical in some way!
- The City We Became is what happens when something otherworldly attacks New York City and the city finds avatars of the boroughs to rise up and fight (feels kinda early Sailor Moon where all the sailor senshi are trying to find the ~moon princess~). It's badass and fun, and so filled with love for New York and I really enjoyed it. I will say, the villain and their tactics hit a little close to home with how the world is today and I had to put the book down at times!
- The Daughter of Doctor Moreau is a retelling of The Island of Doctor Moreau retelling set in Mexico in the 19th century and honesty - anything this woman writes, I will read. I love how she handles different genres and the way she writes and this was no exception.
Anyway fam, take care of each other and stay healthy. Be well.
