What a weird waiting period. By this time next week, I will have turned 31 and will have done *insert awesome thing that she has not planned for her birthday because planning so many things is stressful as fuck*. But it's also just so weird how slowly and how quickly time moves. Like I'm going to be so
old but also I feel like five minutes ago, I was 18.
Speaking of time, happy best month of the year!!!! Thank goodness I returned from my trip when I did because the heat turned on and if I hadn't moved all my plants they would have just up and died. But October! The leaves change, inhaling apple cider everything is acceptable, and 90% of my candles are appropriate now. Perfection.
Anyway, I was chatting with a few people about this over the last few days, and every time I think about New York City, despite the fact that she is filthy and frustrating and fast-paced (wow was that alliteration? Nice), she is also one of the kindest cities I've been do in a while. She like, the people. Like New York City herself will fuck you up.
But as
someone's lazy butt was lazying her way to the subway, someone stood in the doorway so that I could make it. Or at a super busy dining place yesterday, a group of women held a spot for me knowing that I was trying to save a spot for a friend. Or the typical stories, like people working together to help a mother carry a stroller up subway stairs. People giving the fastest and most accurate subway recommendations. Or when a group of New Yorkers on the subway fight about the best ways to get to somewhere, actually confusing the fuck out of the tourists (they don't know what the D and Q are doing during the weekend service, just tell them where to go lmao).
But after spending sometime in a small, kind of sus little town pretending to be a city, with people who truly haven't seen people like me probably except for on television, it's always nice to come home. And like, if someone yells at me for being in their way, they're yelling at everyone lmao the subways really do suck!!! If you miss your train you are toast.
Anyway. Thank you for indulging me on this musing. This has been a long, stressful week (this was also mostly written today but it's STILL THURSDAY AS I SEND), and I'm glad to be back in the city.
Onto some links!
- Christian Bale talking about his iconic roles is quite a treat. I always forget this man is English until I hear him speak. Also? Actual crime that Howl's Moving Castle was not included!!! Or oh yeah, Little Women!!
- They played the song Kill the Lights after a play I went to months ago - Fat Ham? Excellent play. But I think of this song anytime I need a quick pick me up. It's such a bop.
- Also this silly tweet of Kermit the frog as the range of K-drama leading men? Glorious. Also Kermit... what the hell is your twitter I love you?? Why are you lifting weights with your noodle arms???
- As a bonus - Arthur the Aardvark wearing headphones ........ oh buddy.
Anyway, I hope you have a lovely weekend and also don't forget to make sure you're all set to vote! Deadlines are just around the corner.
