Happy Thursday!
This was an okay week! Things weren't as stressful as possible (mostly). I'm technically on vacation even though I've worked at least Monday and Tuesday (I know, I know), but I started a paint by the numbers painting (rip to my EYES squinting at these fucking numbers), consumed D&D, and more.
No ~deep dive this week as I've been enjoying my time not having to think much, but here are some things I've found:
- There's this influencer I follow who has a rent stabilized apartment in NYC and her styling is very pretty and she was interviewed by the New York Times. I always watch a lot of apartment videos (and yall have seen my interest), but it's funny because she had an interview back in 2020 about there's comment she makes where she's like "It's not like i'm stuck here, but I definitely can't leave," and I definitely have felt that with my place! I wish I had more of an interior decorating style, though. I love hers!
- Also the New York Times, this is a very interesting video about how a Black slave was essentially removed from a painting, and what a current family member did to learn more about the painting/the slave/and make sure that it was added back in collections so people could see. It's about a ten minute video but it's fascinating how some curators were like "eh, we have so much in storage! What can you do?" compared to others who really wanted to learn more and admitted their past failings.
- You know I love Brian David Gilbert and his chaotic videos, but here is an interview in the style that truly angers me (we're dudes sitting on a couch holding microphones), and because of that, I almost didn't watch! But I'm glad I did - it was a very interesting (and bit) chaotic discussion about what it's like to have become famous through Polygon and what his next steps will be. Also his hair? Fabulous. I really enjoyed the second past the Polygon discussion where they go on like, how a lot of people aren't build for the corporate world. Like some people aren't good at managing people and that's okay! But for a lot of promotions to hinder on like "you have to manage people even if that's not your forte" can really ruin a job for people. Idk - it was an interesting discussion!
Two more things!!! that I don't have deep thoughts on.
- I was in a bookstore last week for an author event and found this book, Where Are Your Boys Tonight? about the history of emo's mainstream explosion from 1999-2008 and was mystified. Like, this book is 100% my thing! Emo/pop punk music? Check. Oral histories that are perfection in audiobook form? Check. I work at the company so I can easily grab a copy? Check. But! To happen to see it on a shelf at an indie!!!! Goodness. Anyway, I haven't read it so I can't say if it's good, but I'm super excited!
- Uh, don't ask me, but this video, Educational Duck Armageddon, made me laugh during last week when I was truly falling apart. It was a recommended video, so I walked into it with as much context as you will. Is it dumb? Yep. Does it make sense? Nope. Do I laugh every time? ...What do you think.
Have a great weeke-- oop, long weekend! :)
