Being forced to rest is cruel and unusual!!!
You know, it's rude when I say in my newsletters "it's good to slow down" and my body agrees and then forces me to do so. It's just unkind!!!
Ugh.
Anyway, since I was forced onto bedrest for the past week, I spent a lot of the time cleaning. Digital cleaning, that is, before you start to freak out that I was cleaning my home while sick. Hilariously, I think Anne Helen Petersen also did a piece going through cleaning old things so wow look at us staying on theme.
But after a few people sent me the following tweet about having tabs opened, I felt called out! I might have mentioned how many tabs I have open at once on every device (more than I should) and then one friend let me know that so many tabs is weird (rude! but accurate), so I decided since all I could do is read, watch tv, or nap, I might as well multi-task.
(I was also listening to the audiobook, How To Do Nothing at the same time, which I feel like... was the antithesis of the entire book, but whatever.)
I bring this up because digital cleaning is so fascinating. I have systems upon systems so I never actually have to clean anything - I use One Tab, an extensions that shoves all my tabs into one giant link list so I've had links saved since, oh, 2017. I wish I were kidding. I currently have 30 tabs open in this window as I write this but you know what, maybe this is a long standing problem I should deal with.
But going through them was fascinating! I could see entire eras of me while I did so. There was the Brieana who was really interested in learning more about voice acting, because she saved a bunch of links about good microphones and classes. There was the Brieana who was really into getting an Air fryer, because she saved about one million links about Air fryer recipes (ironically, I did buy one, and returned it before I opened it).
My personal favorites were things I saved to consume later. There were television shows and movies with Wikipedia articles open, so I could remember them. Links to goodreads pages so I could check out a book later (which is hilarious because Goodreads has a function to "mark to-read." SO many articles that I wanted to check out with some of the most depressing headlines like:

SO many articles that I wanted to check out with some of the most depressing headlines like:
- "I always longed for a large friendship group, until 2022 when I realized they don't cure loneliness."
- "Comparing yourself to others is a sure route to misery — 5 ways to turn it into action instead"
- What to Do if You’re Barely Keeping It Together Right Now
- ‘I’m Broke and Mostly Friendless, and I’ve Wasted My Whole Life’
I rediscovered GEMS I had probably wanted to share but forgot, such as the BEAUTIFUL mashup of Space Jam and Hamilton, Slaminton. I am not kidding, it is 48 minutes of joy. In relistening, I have to call out, "I'm Not Throwing Away My (Hoop) Shot" because it is genius. Or things I probably would never share, such as one hour of The Rock's verse in Face Off or one hour of JUST Dorlores's and Camillo's verses in We Don't Talk About Bruno. Why do I have these saved? I don't know.
But it was interesting as in AHP's article, she worries that people will not have ways to document their past selves because everything is so digital. Which makes sense in a way - if my OneTab was deleted or my Instagram was gone, I would lose all those weird little journeys I went on throughout the last few years. But since they're not so far, it's interesting to see the type of person I have been.
Little digital scrapbooks of my little digital adventures around the internet.
Anyway, other things I found interesting cause I'm FORCED to REST ugh.
- You should check out Would You Be My Neighbor? the Fred Rogers documentary. It was really good! To everyone who got me live texting them all my thoughts, again, I apologize lmao. I also re-watched Hot Fuzz and lord, if you haven't watched that???? Get on it.
- Tupperware or tubberware? Lmao I came across this video and it continues to make me laugh. Who are these men? I don't care unless they're awful! But I will laugh.
- SO I keep watching videos about apartment hunting! Idk why but I'm so fascinated. A fun secret from me - I've never actually apartment hunted in nyc. My last roommate did the heavy lifting for my first place (the only shout out she will ever get), and a friend helped me get my current place. idk how it's done!
- This is a deep dive on three people trying to stay in NYC after their rent goes up from between $700-$2100 a month. (A MONTH.) The rental market has really lost the plot.
- This dude found a $700 a month apartment in Hells Kitchen and it's as small as you think but hey! He's super optimistic and happy so props to him!
