Happy Thursday.
So I am so very tired. It's kind of funny because I definitely don't feel like I deserve that I should be tired but there's everything going in the world, making sure my authors and my coworkers are doing alright, and more. Considering I'm coming off vacation number two in as many months, I should be fine in theory.
But also it's slowly hitting me that I'm burned out. Like, I think I've known this, but I've really been struggling in focusing on anything, much less work. And yeah! I guess realizing that has at least allowed me to try to start figuring out what to do.
Oh - I did manage to buy my flight for Europe next month so I at least did one thing this week.
I've been really watching a ton of insightful videos about a range of things:
- The Sea Park Apartments - ie what happens when due to a technicality, your home is surrounded by someone else's private land?
- Meal Kits - ie Did you know that there are almost 400 meal kits in the US? I certainly didn't - and most of them are operating at a loss and most will probably close within the next five years.
- Trader Joes - ie why is it so cheap and how can they continue to sell bananas at the same price they did 20 years ago?
- Barnes and Noble - ie how they're reshaping their stores to really feel like an indie store.
I guess these are recs but idk, I don't have deep thoughts on them, but they were definitely interesting and if you're looking to learn stuff, I enjoyed these.
Here are some things that either made me laugh this week which I feel like a lot of people could use a laugh right now:
- I was going to do a deep dive on terrible National Anthems (but if you haven't, here's Fergie's and here's Chaka Khan's - they're bad for such different reasons.), but I found the picture book of Fergie's and I think I laughed for a solid business week.
- Also for reference, here's Whitney Houston singing it and truly I had forgotten what the song could sound like after.... the earlier versions.
- Also I mentioned before that I really liked Merrily We Roll Along and so Vanity Fair and BuzzFeed had the cast on for a Lie Dectector Test and a Puppy Interview and like, they have SUCH amazing chemistry!
Annnnd that's enough links I think?
Hope you and yours are doing well.
