** The Curious Corner #8
This is the new edition of the Curious Corner of the Internet. If you have any feedback, let me know at: jsplattel@gmail.com (mailto:jsplattel@gmail.com) .
This edition is all about play. Games, toys and slides. So here’s the list: * Ribbonfarm is one thoughtfull blog that I follow. The article Demons by Candelight (http://www.ribbonfarm.com/2014/02/27/demons-by-candelight/) is an interesting read about how we spend our time. * As a kid, toy cars were all the rage. Multiply the amount with a thousand that you used to have, to make a Metropolis (https://vimeo.com/87798784) . * It’s no kids edition, but having a slide (https://www.quirky.com/products/612-sliderider-the-inside-slide/timeline) in your own home? Why not? * The internet is full of mysteries, a blue and red square (http://algopop.tumblr.com/post/86584578358/webdriver-torso-viabotpoet-webdriver-torso-is-a) on youtube are part of a mystery too.. I bet it has something to do with testing. * Moritz Stefaner is one of the best if you are looking for a data-visualization. But his recent experiments are in food (http://data-cuisine.net/) , but there’s data too! * Rebooting a 35 year satellite (http://spectrum.ieee.org/tech-talk/aerospace/satellites/space-hackers-prepare-to-reboot-35-year-old-spacecraft) has to be one of the bigger dreams of some hackers. And they might be able to get it back to Earth! * I could not stop watching for one hour as a guy with a helmet full of camera’s is racing through NY (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0npCFw9TEnA) and keeping his head pointed forwards.. * 30 Untranslatable words (http://www.boredpanda.com/untranslatable-words-found-in-translation-anjana-iyer/) from other languages that are illustrated. * I’ve read Annihilation: A Novel (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0374104093/ref=pe_160130_118010150_em_1p_0_ti) last holiday while in Italy. And while it’s not the genre I usually like the atmosphere of the book is incredible! * I use Flux (http://justgetflux.com/) , but now it’s here for all my usual lighting with Drift-Light (http://drift-light.com/) . * Since Glass is now available, why not use a script that lets you kick them off Wifi? Find a Google Glass and kick it from the network (http://julianoliver.com/output/log_2014-05-30_20-52) * Nowhere and Everywhere (http://brightonfestival.org/event/2336/nowhere_and_everywhere_at_the_same_time_no._2/) is an art project that lures you into a self-imagined game.
Thanks, I hope you like them and on to the next edition!
