Cuckoo's Nest Press Newsletter #7

Hey folks, hope you’re all keeping well and staying warm! Once again I realized I have more to talk about this time around than I thought I did, so let’s get started...

Screenshot of Indigo's Prairie Books Of The Year 2025, with Last Band On Earth on the end

First of all, I’m thrilled to announce that Last Band On Earth has been selected as an Indigo Prairie Book of the Year! Click this link to see all the other books for each region.

I’ve also submitted copies to the Saskatchewan Book Awards, so fingers crossed for that – nominees are announced next March.

I did a reading and Q&A at Turning The Tide Books in Saskatoon a few weeks back, and you can watch a recording of the whole thing here – I think it went pretty well!

An acrylic painting of the sun, but it has several bulging eyes of different sizes. There are small fiery solar flares bursting out of all sides of it.

Here’s a painting I finished recently (11 x 15” acrylic on paper) that I call “Solar Flare, Or: What If The Sun Was Demonic And Had Too Many Eyes.”

And here’s another new piece. The sketch for this one has been sitting on top of my flat file drawers for months, feels good to finally get it done. After I finished painting the sky, I went “uh oh, that looks terrible – well, I’ll finish the rest anyway and see what I think of it then” and it’s not too bad!

one of those yellow diamond shaped “animal crossing” signs, except this one has a picture of an octopus crawling along the ground.
a little smiling cartoon medieval guardsman dude with a shield and a spear, one of several different logos for the Burger Baron restaurant chain - except in this version, the little guy is melting. Still smiling, though!

Some new stuff in the ol’ shop – these new stickers! I finally pulled the trigger on making stickers of the Melting Burger Baron, here’s hoping I can sell a few. XD
Octopus Crossing is here, and Melting Burger Baron is here.

In the lead-up to Christmas, I’m also offering digital punk pet portrait commissions! These were a big hit on the Last Band Kickstarter, so if you missed out on those, now’s your chance to get a digital one: click here and fill out the form! 2 slots still available as of this writing. (Prices are in CAD, btw!)

A greyscale digital ink and wash illustration of a small boat sitting amongst some rocks against the shore of a small pond. A cottage and some trees are in the background.

Last time I told you about my hubby Mark’s Kickstarter for his new book, Photo-Illustration. Here’s the piece I did for that, based on his photo from Suffolk Retreats, where we stayed during his sister’s wedding this past August.

And here’s his original photo for comparison. The book turned out great, and you can get a copy from his shop here!

That’s it for today - if I don’t see ya again before the end of the year, have a joyous holiday season and the happiest of new years!
