Cuckoo's Nest Press Newsletter #5
Wow, it’s been a while, huh?
The truth is I just haven’t had a great deal to report – the last few months have mostly been occupied by the Kickstarter. I had to make a lot of last-minute edits to the book, and then it took longer to get the printed books than I expected, and then I had to begin the arduous process of shipping them all...
But the good news is, that’s all but finished now – apart from the few stragglers who have yet to fill out their surveys. And now I can begin the arduous process of going on the road and hocking the book to people in person! :)

As I write this, Free Comic Book Day has finished, along with MCAF. Unfortunately, I had to cancel MCAF as I got hit with some unexpected expenses and I just couldn’t afford to make the trip. It’s really too bad, I hear it’s a great show – hopefully I can make it out there one of these years.

Next up is Panel One in Calgary this weekend! If you’re around and in the area, it’s at the Hillhurst Sunnyside Community Association from 11 am – 6 pm – would love to see you there!
And then the big one – TCAF! My favourite show! I am so excited to be returning, and hopeful that the new location works out well for everyone.
So what have I been drawing, though? Not a great deal...I might be kinda burned out? Finishing a huge graphic novel always takes a lot out of me. At the end of each one I always say, “I am never doing this again.” I would like to do some shorter, more experimental stuff, and also maybe some one-page gag strips, although I have been saying I’d do both of those things for years, and technically I have, it’s just...well, never mind. You know how it is.
So, of course, there will be more comics in the future, I’m just not sure when. In the meantime, here’s a new Little Guys sketch that will be another painting in the near future:

I also got asked to do this cover for the final issue of Hexagon Magazine! Really like how this one turned out:

And finally, I’ve also been working on artwork for some Cartoonist Co-op intro videos. If you make comics, I’d encourage you to join the Co-op – we’d love to have you!
So you might be wondering, “Hey, I don’t live anywhere near any of those conventions and I also missed out on the Kickstarter – where can I get a copy of Last Band On Earth?” Good news, I have some pre-order links!
For Canadians, here’s the direct link from my publisher: https://renegadeartsentertainment.com/product/the-last-band-on-earth/
And the Shoplocal/Bookmanager link: https://shoplocal.bookmanager.com/isbn/9781998489398
For Americans: https://bookshop.org/p/books/the-last-band-on-earth/msybz4mYvF7osrzS?ean=9781998489398&next=t&affiliate=106156
UK: https://uk.bookshop.org/a/15816/9781998489398
Everyone else: I’ll keep you posted!
And after TCAF I’ll have the digital PDF for sale in my Ko-Fi shop and my itch.io store (and the physical books, eventually - see below) – I’ll probably send out another quick newsletter update once I’ve got those links up and running.

I’ve closed my Ko-Fi shop temporarily in light of the Canada Post strike, as this means there’s no Large Letter option for me to send out comics and prints. Hopefully I can open it again soon – in the meantime, if you will be at TCAF and would like to pre-order a copy of Last Band directly from me, you can donate $25 or more to me through this link. Just show me your receipt and I’ll hand over a book! In person! Wow!

What’s cool in the crowdfunding scene right now? Well, you should definitely check out my friend C. Clark’s Kickstarter for her horror graphic novel LEMONS! She has an original art tier!!! Who wouldn’t want to own one of her gorgeously painted pages?!
That’s all from me for this edition - see you soon!
