I’d planned to send out some updates about Iron Kelwas as well as being invited onto a VICFA panel, but that was before confirming that I’ll be returning to read for Story Hour! September 9th, I’ll be joined by Pamela M. Durgin, so if you’re in the mood for something eerie or weird please drop in and say hi! I’ll also be a guest host in early November (date TBD), which should be a blast. Really appreciate Laura Blackwell and Daniel Marcus for keeping me in mind.

VICFA is the Virtual version of the International Conference on the Fantastic in the Arts. This year’s theme is “Speculative Visions of Care and Hope” which I feel a bit more prepared to engage, given the last couple of years. Also: my first time attending! We’re scheduled for Saturday 9/19/26 from 2-3:10pm EST, so if you’re attending feel free to drop in.

I’ve also been working on a (semi-)secret project that’s now very close to release: audio narration of Foreign Objects. I don’t want to say much more yet, since it’s not completed, but I wanted to thank Noah McKinnon, E.G. Condé, and Sofia Quintero for agreeing to narrate.

There’s also Capclave coming up, but since the schedules have yet to be finalized, let’s move on to the big announcement.

No real surprise that I’m self-publishing Iron Kelwas, the Raven Knights, and Their Little Sister in ebook format, but I’m also planning for a physical version as well.

There’s good news and bad news.

The bad news? Well, given that we’re slated to begin all the award season posting and reading, I figured it might be better to release early 2027 to increase my chances. I also want to give everything a last-minute editing pass and write an Afterword for it, so I hope that’s worth the wait.

The good news? Well, you’re free to read the entire thing right now if you haven’t already. It’s all in the Archive, after all, but you can start with Part One.

Oh, and I almost forgot that The Speculative Detective Agency anthology’s release is just around the corner (October 6). If you’re so moved, pre-order at the bookstore of your choice (but as of this writing, Bookshop seems to have the lowest price).
