Here It Comes
What a year it’s been.
Looking back at my post-election entry, there was a lot of pessimism in what to expect. Some of it bang-on, some of it caught up in that feeling of inevitable momentum that while understandable, wasn’t quite as accurate as we’ve seen. While we’re by no means out of the woods yet, it is heartening to see so many regular people stand up to this to protect their neighbors. Low-level state and Federal functionaries slowing down the takeover in what ways they can.
While everything continues to be very uncertain, possibly in catastrophically bad ways, I’ve found myself disengaging with unnecessary - for want of a better word - drama. This isn’t to say I don’t care deeply about certain things (as of this writing, I’m ignoring the most recent eruption of the ongoing AI/LLM inclusion debate), but if I’ve already said what I’m going to say about the issue, what’s the point in repeating myself? Besides, I could use that time more productively. It helps me concentrate on working on what really matters to me rather than filling my brain with chaff.
Our old girl, Bizet, has also been doing quite well. Maybe I’m being annoying about it, but her health scare at about this time last year has been on my mind this holiday season. I’m extremely happy her health seems to be much better, and that she’s back to her odd little ways once again. I don’t know how much longer we’ll have her, but I’m determined to spend as much time with her as possible. It would’ve been nice to be able to work from home during Bizet’s coming years but I’ll make do.
Lastly, I’ve been delighted at the positive reception of my latest short, Blanquitos. It’s been a pleasant surprise to hear how many people loved it, especially given its long journey to publication. It’s a nice feeling to have as the year winds down to its end.
That’s all I’ve got this time.
Thank you, Happy New Year, and may 2026 bring better things.
