Tristesse’s new show "A Soft Geometry" at Propellor and an upcoming Duct Tape Magazine pop-up show

Friends,
The thing I’m the most excited about at the minute is the opening of Tristesse’s new show at Propellor Studio, A Soft Geometry. It’s been a treat to watch this body of work evolve from the first vibrant bursts on our residency in Joshua Tree last summer to the work she’s completed over the past year. Because each piece requires first designing and weaving the canvas, then painting, it’s a process that requires patience and courage—and the results are beautiful.
Our art practices naturally combine and maintain a certain level of family-affairness but this show is even more so, with the addition of Sandra Crompton (my Mom) adding some of her weaving work into the mix alongside Propellor’s beautiful objects. Sandra has been a teacher and mentor to Tristesse over this last year, sharing her tools, space, and many decades of knowledge. Tristesse has been weaving these into her practice.
I’m proud and stoked to see Tristesse, Pamela Godard, Toby Barratt, Nik Rust, and Sandra share some space together. Family and friends, bursting with creativity. I do hope you’ll come and check it out.
The opening reception is this coming Friday, September 19, from 6-9 PM and the show runs until November 19.
Here’s a reel I designed as a teaser for the show [Links to IG]:
Bonus Bits:
I’ve got a piece in Mark Mizgala’s Vancouver Special exhibition that’s returning as a three-day pop-up Sept. 19-21. The show is based on the Duct Tape Magazine issue he published earlier in the year and I mentioned in this previous Transmission. If you’re in the neighbourhood, pop in and check it out.

On that tip, the most recent issue has pieces from both Tristesse and me. Those will appear in another pop-up show in November. More deets on that show soon but you can get it now directly from Duct Tape.

That’s it for the minute! If you’re local, we hope to see you out next Friday at Propellor. If not, I’ll see you here next week with a full transmission!
