Influencer faces legal and public scrutiny for making a crass joke
Annoyed about the whole country being mad at one person over a harmless joke
Happy weekend (or whenever you read this, I won't judge).
There's this podcaster in India known as BeerBiceps, his real name being Ranveer Allahbadia.
I've been a hater of his for a long time because of his cosying with the right-wing and penchant for saying things that don't make a lick of sense without a hint of irony.
The Prime Minister gave him some sort of national award in 2024.
Recently, he went on a game show with more annoying people as a judge, and asked a question to a contestant that went something like this:
Would you rather have to watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life, or join them once and stop it forever?
This has caused a huge uproar. Charges have been filed against everyone involved in the show. People want him to be jailed for some reason. Some are threatening him with violence over this1. He might be called to the parliament of the nation for this. You can read this article on "World Is One News", an international organisation that sometimes reports on India to see just how many people have censured him: archived from WION.
While it is satisfying to see someone being treated horribly by the same oppressive forces they support, it's annoying to see just how regressive and angry so many people in India are. Nobody speaks up about how weird this is because they just don't care.

I put this Times of India article into archive.is to prevent link rot, and it took ages to download everything due to how much cruft there is on the modern web :/ ↩
