Issue #43: Dearest Gentle Reader, This Author Has Returned

You just couldn’t get rid of me. Not that easily!!

Creator Class

tap tap Is thing on? 🎤 🎚️

So June of last year, I mistakenly declared that I was sunsetting this newsletter. You had probably signed up on JaredWhite.com for a variety of reasons: because I'd written something informative about the Indie Web & the Fediverse, or what it's like to be a creative freelancer, or perhaps even something related to mindfulness & spirituality. Or maybe it was because you were a fan of my podcast, Fresh Fusion.

Regardless, even though I said I was going to focus on other projects like the Cycles Hyped No More newsletter and the Vibe Coded podcast (which I did), discussing all things “Big Tech” shenanigans and the horrifying freakshow that is GenAI hype 😅, I came to realize that having a more personal newsletter where I can share whatever is on my mind as a “Ar-Teest” 😉, and perhaps even offer a word of wisdom or two, is still valuable. And maybe in my heart of hearts, this is why I never had the heart to remove the email signup form on my blog…

And funny thing, a bunch of you signed up! So thanks for that!! Hopefully most of you don't immediately punch unsubscribe thinking “who the hell is this Jared White joker?” 🤨

So listen, I don't have any deep thoughts to share in this inaugural issue of the "new" Creator Class. I'll simply close with some links to online stuff I've worked on lately you might have missed, along with my sincere promise that you'll hear from me again real soon. I trust the wait will have been worth it. ☺️

Excelsior!
–Jared

Links to Online Stuff I've Worked On Lately You Might Have Missed

  • Blog: A Year in Four Seasons: 2025 Was One Hell of a Ride. I went into the year wondering if I was about to make a terrible, terrible mistake. Did I?
  • Blog: Baker's Dozen: My Favorite TV Shows of 2025. I normally don’t care for long lists like this, but I enjoyed such a wide range of television this year, I simply couldn’t narrow it down.
  • Essay: Sharing the Love of the Love of Art. Learning to embrace the rewarding messiness of making art while human.
  • Podcast: Betting All My Chips on LinkedIn (wink lol). New year, new grumpy cat (!!), new recording setup (hint: not using an Apple OS!), and so much more. Welcome to the soft-reboot of Fresh Fusion, and a state of the [fill in the blank] rundown: from social networking to desktops to music streamers along with some praise for a software ecosystem I never expected to be this jazzed about in 2026…Ruby. All that and a bag o’ chips (different chips than the ones I’m using to bet with, obviously).
  • Newsletter: Down with the Gatekeepers! Who…are Artists, Apparently. Of all the arguments put forth by the hype-bros for Generative AI, this one is perhaps the most perplexing. And it deserves serious scrutiny.
  • Essay: Any Sane Person in Computers Right Now: “Are We the Baddies?” It’s hard not to wonder, in a type of technological midlife crisis, if the cultural phenomenon called Computers isn’t well past its sell-by date by now.

OK, so this is the part where you realize you needed to click on something. 😂

Well? Did you?

“Damnit Jared, now I'm really unsubscribing.”

No wait, please! Don't go! 🥺

Issue #42: You MUST Embrace the Boring and the Mundane

I wish we could ban the word “productivity” from our vocabulary altogether. It’s a doomsday cult.

Oh, the things we tell ourselves. Over and over and over again. It's all been for nothing. Things are going downhill again just as they always have before....
