✷ greetings ✷
hello from mid-october! time is weird and so am i! i hope you're enjoying your spooky season. right now i am busy preparing for oly punk rock flea market and portland zine symposium which are basically a week apart. also busy being a sleepy lil guy as i adjust to antidepressants. i've been fighting with seasonal depression since i was a teenager and i finally decided to give medication a try, in a hopeful attempt to avoid a repeat of last year's carnage. we'll see what happens!
✷ upcoming events ✷

image description: a flyer with a drawing of a really big plant in a really small living room that reads, “oly punk rock flea market. oct 22nd, 12-4, free. at olympia armory. masks required, all ages, ADA accessible. oly punk rock flea market dot com.”
friday october 20th: partial second home benefit at pig bar! pigeon pit, 11-11 and wavers. all ages, 8pm, $10, wear a mask. last oly show before pigeon pit (and by extension, second home co-organizer josh) goes to australia for tour!
sunday, october 22nd: oly punk rock flea market at the olympia armory, 12-4, masks required, ADA accessible :)
saturday, october 28th: portland zine symposium, 11-5 at PSU's smith ballroom (1825 SW broadway). all ages, ADA accessible and masks strongly encouraged! there's also a halloween cover show at le voyeur in oly this night! in case you wanna see josh cover gruff mcgruff the crime dog (i know i do, but the likelihood that i will be able to muster the spoons after a full ass day of talking to people is unlikely!).
friday, november 10th: i'm running a show at le voyeur at 7 for diy lifer dakota's band new junk city! more info to come.
✷ zine news/shop news ✷
family recipes zine is now available in digital form in my shop. i have a handful of physical copies set aside for the flea market and portland zine symposium, if they don't sell out i'll put 'em in the shop then.
i made a quick, silly little mini zine this month. once i muster the energy to scan it and make it a pdf, it'll be available for patrons. i think i'm gonna mail them to both digital and physical tier patrons but don't quote me on that! once patrons get it, i'll add 'em to my shop. prolly late october/early november.
this month i added two new skeleton stickers to the shop and i love them even if nobody buys them.
image description: two die-cut, matte holographic skeleton stickers on a gray marbled paper background. one skeleton is sitting by some flowers, holding one up to it’s nose as if to smell it, the other is holding a smart phone that is emanating a sickly green light, with the words “quit scrolling” underneath.
✷ some songs ✷
here's what i've been listening to this (actually last) month!
✷ second home ✷
we'll have a table at the punk rock flea market! there will be stickers, informational zines and goodie bags. bless hugh for agreeing to be at the table, josh and jake will be on a weekender tour with wavers.
✷ report back from all the things ✷
olympia zine fest was fantastic this year. it's always my favorite event, but i loved the outdoor block party situation this year. it didn't hurt that i was positioned right next to sofie's scoops gelato either. i was completely slammed the whole time and i even had to have kyle bring me more stock from home. thanks to an actual angel volunteer who sat at my table, i got to do some speed-shopping. 11/10.
open no mic kind of a bust, but that's okay. i think everyone on earth was having a weird/bad day that day actually.
second home benefit at le voyeur was really fun! we had a decent turn out, had the rare treat of seeing squill play, mini golf water feature and wavers were both so fun. talked to lots of nice folks and handed out many informational zines about our mission to foster all ages diy music and art.
✷ fucking hooray ✷
✷ being sleepy is an okay med side effect for someone who has immense trouble sleeping
✷ i cleared my wholesale queue for the first time since august! (i wrote this last night and as of today it is no longer true! lol)
✷ i finished all my market inventory on time
✷ two big events and then i can sorta chill (One (two?) Last Big Job energy)
✷ kyle and i celebrated our 10 year anniversary this month on friday the 13th, i made lemon ricotta chanterelle pizza and we watched buffy
✷ kyle and i also planted bulbs- like 50 assorted tulips, crocuses, hyacinths, snowdrops and daffodils (our front yard is gonna explode in spring)
✷ i don't even remember september now OH! there was a really sweet gig at new moon and i'm looking forward to more shows there
✷ i have to go make black bean sweet potato burgers now okay bye i love you!
til next time! thanks for reading!
love,
alyssa
