perzine newsletter | november 2022
✷ greetings ✷
greetings from possibly the strangest place i've written this newsletter to date? i'm at a marimba band practice. it's kinda wild to watch four people play marimba at once. btw! november has been keeping me busy.
✷ new in the shop ✷

image description: a screenshot of craftordiy.shop with all the new arrivals
i have lots of new offerings for y'all in the shop! a couple stickers and a handful of prints, plus the zine about chest dysphoria i mentioned my previous newsletter. more on that below. i have another new sticker i'll be adding soon, a bumper sticker that says, "proud parent of a shitload of plants."
this is your official reminder to place your orders by december 15th if you wanna get them in time for christmas! usps says the 17th is the cutoff, i'll be scheduling my mail pickup that week on either the 16th or 17th. please keep in mind usps is pure chaos this time of year, so if you really wanna be safe, don't order last minute! there's usually delays. also, if it seems usps lost your package, let me know and i'll send a replacement.
✷ upcoming stuff ✷
zine lunch!
i'll be doing zine lunch on december 9th at 9am pacific time/noon eastern time. you can sign up here to attend! it's a free zoom zine workshop i mentioned in a previous newsletter. i'll be talking about perzines. i've never led a workshop before and i am absolutely terrified and i hope my loose outline translates to an hour workshop :'-)
winter market
i'll be tabling at the armory in olympia (515 Eastside St SE) from 12-6 on december 17th. it's the only market i'm doing this holiday season and i'm not exactly prepared and i am definitely out of time to do so, but i'll be there! there's a facebook event here. it's called bad girl make over, which i have mixed feelings about lol. there will be some very rad vendors though, if you don't already have enough holiday markets to go to.
✷ zine news ✷
my newest zine, to yeet or not to yeet?, has been sent out to patrons and is now available in my shop. it's 16 pages, quarter letter paper size (a rare size for me, i think i finally cracked the pagination on that one). it has some thoughts on dysphoria with no real conclusion, and it's tempered with humor and illustrations. it feels particularly vulnerable and unpolished for me.
i'm working on laying out the zine about my trip to pa whenever i can steal a moment (which is not often!)
i've been thinking about making a companion zine to my nonbinary zine that helps people unpack their gender baggage so they can recontextualize their trans loved ones in their heads, instead of just memorizing pronouns. this is a lofty idea and i don't know if it'll actually come to fruition, but i'd love to hear input if anyone has any.
i have a single submission for the family recipes zine, and i'd love to have more! loose february deadline. i'm looking for any kind of recipe, so long as it has some familial significance (chosen fam or family of origin both count). folks can also send me accompanying photos and/or stories related to the recipe(s). no deadline for now, email stuff to burndowntheinternet@gmail.com (you can reply here too).
✷ no thanks! ✷
i didn't wanna open the letter with this, but jfc club q was a punch in the gut. my heart goes out to anyone who was directly affected, folks like myself who weren't connected but felt grief anyway, and anyone who had to spend any amount of time with transphobic family this month. y'all should have been formally exempt from thanksgiving (and thanksgiving shouldn't be a thing anyway, but that's a different rant).
✷ do diy dot org ✷
i'm behind on emails again, which is no surprise, i'm sure! i'll be getting to them tomorrow hopefully.
✷ fucking hurray ✷
✷ i paid for an ad on gender reveal (one of my favorite podcasts) and much to my delight, tuck followed it up with, "not to editorialize, but that shop absolutely rules and you should check it out." (if they mail got you to my shop and you signed up for my newsletter, hi!!)
✷ i went to a really great basement show in tacoma, at a space i've been wanting to go to for ages. it was very wholesome and i love diy. i came away with this EP by wendell, highly recommend.
✷ booked an air bnb with one of my partners in portland for my birthday, i'm excited to be a tourist and eat a lot of food
✷ the holiday rush is happening and i haven't had a nervous breakdown yet :-)
✷ so glad i get to be trans in peace 2,000 some odd miles from family this holiday season
thanks for reading! til next time.
love,
alyssa
